The "Fire Toboshi" has been handed down for more than four hundred years in the Ohinata district of Nanmokumura,
It is one of the largest fire festivals remaining in the prefecture. The fire festival method is of the "Abare Matsuri" type.
The ancestors of the residents helped Takeda Shingen's forces when they invaded Jōshū in the 4th year of Eiroku,
It is said that the joy they felt when they helped Takeda Shingen's army defeat the lords' forces was passed on in the form of a "fire festival.
With flutes and drums, the participants burn straw bundles tied to a rope two to three meters long from the Ohinata Bridge over the Nammoku River.
The flame is then passed around by two or three people at a time.
A circular trail of flames emerges in the darkness, creating a powerful and fantastic atmosphere in the midsummer night.
